Obnoxious me

So... I've been pondering this a while, but today was the final straw.

#WW and #FF madness, that is.
(Twitter speak, for those of you unfamiliar. Google it.)

Wednesdays and Fridays, it's like a crazy baffoon takes over my good sense BUT I want to make sure all the cool peeps I talk to get a nod from me. It's a condition. Probably diagnosable.

While, I generally consider myself obnoxious... I guess I sorta would prefer it if you all didn't. A dear Twitter friend, Katja Rinne brought to my attention there's a better way to show my followly love.

While it makes perfect freakin' sense... I have an obnoxious fear of letting people down. (Where the hell did THAT come from, anyway? I blame my family. It's gotta be them, right?)

At any rate, thanks, in part to Katja... (and my cheerleader, Sherry who started me thinking on it originally) I am starting a new thing. Wednesdays and Fridays are still gonna be my nod to great people, but I'll be picking only 3 and I'm gonna be specific as to why you should follow them. Why 3? Well, because it's a fantastic flippin' number... and it's not overly obnoxious. HA!

The last thing I want to do is bombard you awesome people with my crazy-craziness.

Time for a new evolution in Twitter-speak from me. Hang tight.

Ideally, I'll be less obnoxious. ;)

My thoughts EXACTLY!!! I am scared that people are not going to like me or that they'll be mad that I didn't include them. And I am sure that it will slow down my followers gained because I'm sure that a lot of those #WW and #FF are just to get me because I got them. It's a viscous cycle!

It did seem like it was getting ridiculous! I would do sooo many and then still forget people!

I will try the 3-5 peeps thing and see how that goes!

Isn't it a viscous cycle? Wow. It's gotten crazy. Time to reclaim a *bit* of sanity for myself and my Twitter followers. I think in the long run, it will be better. ;)

Haha! I never thought you were obnoxious. But of course, I've been blessed to be on the receiving end of your follow kindnesses. :)

I think the holy trinity of followdom sounds fab! It'll be fun to see who you pick every week; I look forward to finding new tweeps to follow. :)

Good idea. I've been trying to figure out something myself. I had a whole list picked out today, but since I'm actually supposed to be focusing on a day job deadline and the one I set for my rewrite, I scrapped it. I think I'll try the 3 person too. Or 5 if I can't make up my mind.

I always try to make sure I only recommend people who are totally awesome in some way or another. I also like to make sure I'm specific about why I'm recommending them. I'm not a fan of impersonal #WW's and #FF's. You have certainly made my list more than a couple of times, because you are awesome. Not all writers are awesome, you know.

Happy Wednesday to you. :)

Thanks, guys!

I'm always looking for new was to be better. This seems like a great opportunity to do it. I don't want people to feel left out, but I want to give genuine shout outs. They won't be the same every week. I'll pick different ones. So be on the lookout. It'll probably be based on our interactions. Great content, etc.

@TS - You're awesome, too! I adore your blog, woman and can't wait for your book! (Or your new cover, for that matter!)

I've been struggling with the same thing! And it sucks when the mention is from some random person you've never interacted with, but that sense of obligation to return the favour looms...

I know my eyes glaze over when I read the lists everyone else sends out. I need to stop perpetuating the cycle.

I just found that Friday follow web site. I thought I'd try that tomorrow. With so many followers, it's hard to keep up, but that site shows you the people you interacted with most in the last week. That's gotta mean something, right? We'll see if it helps.

This is a great idea though - very specific and targeted to only a few. Nice!

I've been to the Follow Friday site, but it still doesn't work as nice as I'd like. I still feel like there are a bazillion people I'm missing. I think this way, I can get over the guilt of "missing people" because I'm choosing to be specific. You know?

I'm a new follower. I love your idea! It is kind of obnoxious with all the #WW and #FF luv going around. I'm new to twitter but it is already getting old. :)

Nice to meet you Ciara! Glad to know this idea is looking good! I look forward to getting to know you better. Thanks for your post!

Hey, you read my mind!
Wednesdays and Fridays (not to mention now there's something about Mondays... *shudder*) started giving me anxiety. I gave up on them.
Limiting it to 3 is a great idea! Is it up for grabs? ;)

LOL! I think we can start a new thing! All the cool kids are doing it. ;)

Good for you, Carissa! Good to hear you're following your own heart as opposed to the flow!

I've done the same thing except I send out 1 tweet per Tweep along with their website for Friday, and why people should follow. It makes it personal and it allows others to evaluate right there if the person is worthy of the follow!

Good going.
